Primordial Mermaid

An Egyptian Water Myth

A mythopoetic performance work inspired by the ancient Egyptian myth of Isis, Queen of the Waters, reimagined for the underground rivers and lakes in Australia.

Canberra Art Biennial

Once upon a time, deep in the Primordial Ocean an enchanting mermaid was born. Ever since she has been traveling the waters of life, gathering ancient stories of creation. Now this majestic creature of the deep is waiting on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin to remind us how to awaken the seeds of wisdom that lie within us and beneath us.

Great Heart of the primordial waters of Life, our heart is open to our Love story with you. May we come close to the heart-ache. May we cry the sweet waters of yearning, and awaken the spirit of regeneration. Let the great green seeds of wisdom rise.

A prayer spoken by the Primordial Mermaid, with her audiences.

At the ends of the universe is a blood red chord that ties life to death, man to woman, will to destiny. Let the knot of that sash, which cradles the hips of the goddess bind in us the ends of life and dream.
