Dark Moon
A Mesopotamian Moon Myth
"From the Great above she opened her ear to the Great Below.
From the Great above the goddess opened her ear to the Great Below.
From the Great above, Inanna opened her ear to the Great Below.”
Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth; Her stories and hymns from Sumer
By Diane Wolkstein & Samuel Noah Kramer
Dark Moon is inspired by poetry written nearly 4000 years ago following the Descent of Innana. The work is also informed by Jules Cashford’s text, The Moon: Symbol of Transformation
The Dark Queen calls out from the Great Below and invites you to descend and gather with her amongst the seeds and soil and the dark of the moon. The Queen gives her sincere apologies for her flatulence, things are a bit out of balance underground. But don’t be afraid of the spells and smells she’s casting inside the dark moon, transformation can be a messy business.
Performed at festivals in Canberra, Alice Springs and many a campfire.
